Mesut Ozil is back training with Arsenal ahead of their Premier League showdown with Liverpool this weekend. The German is yet to feature for Arsenal this season after concerns about his safety following a failed carjacking last month. Sead Kolasinac was also involved, but did come on as a substitute for Arsenal in their 2-1 win over Burnley last weekend. Ozil missed the game through illness, but is on track to return to the squad in time for Arsenal’s visit to Anfield.
The playmaker was pictured in training on Tuesday and his return will be a boost for Unai Emery and his players. Dani Ceballos has impressed in Ozil’s absence and Arsenal are yet to drop a point in their first two Premier League games this season. Liverpool too have a 100 per cent record and the winner of the contest will go top of the league table.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Ceballos keeps his place after his man-of-the-match performance against Burnley and that Nicolas Pepe will be given his first start by Emery. Pepe has twice come off the bench for Arsenal, but Emery may be tempted to unleash the £72million signing on Liverpool’s defence. And Jamie Carragher believes Arsenal’s attack is capable of exploiting the high defensive line Liverpool have been deploying so far this season.
He said: ‘Well that’s what you think, you think [Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang, [Alexandre] Lacazette, Pepe maybe coming on also. ‘When I say Liverpool have got away with it, the quality they’ve played against hasn’t been top class. ‘I said after the Norwich game, if they were playing a top team they may not have won.
